Route: leaving the car in the pub carpark (with permission) and crossing the A594 and walking through the village parallel with Dovenby Beck running beside a fine wall. Leaving the village on a track apparently through the drive of a private house and continuing parallel to the beck on a muddy path. Crossing the beck and then turning left and right to cross a disused railway. Across muddy fields to reach a hedged in track to the outskirts of Great Broughton. Following more tracks then the road to reach the north bank of the River Derwent. Following this to turn left along Broughton Beck crossing the road at Broughton Beck Bridge and then on a muddy path by the stream to Priest Bridge, slowly realising it was familiar. Here failing to gain access along the next stage of the beck and walking instead along the road, crossing the A594 onto the road to Tallentire, past Dovenby Mill and back to the pub.
Conditions: despite the cloudy forecast, some sun and quite warm.
Pub: the Ship Inn, Dovenby (for the first time) for Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and a meal deal lunch.
