Route: leaving the car opposite the Holiday Property Bond cottages in Braithwaite and running back into the village, along the path east of the pub to find the path between the brook and caravan park heading south east to Little Braithwaite. Joining the road as far as Ullock and then taking a clear dry path across fields towards Portinscale climbing to turn right along a rather posh private road to pick up the Cumbria Way heading south. Along this to the end of Catbells and under its western flank, rising consistently on a road to Skelgill and descending to the adventure centre where picking up a poorly indicated path to Uzzicar, along the road and then taking the balcony path behind the wood to reach Braithwaite Lodge and descend to the start.
Conditions: low cloud and intermittent gusty rain.
Pub: the Royal Oak, Braithwaite, for Jennings Sneck Lifter and Cocker Hoop.
