Latterbarrow

A quick walk on an iffy day with Steve, Kathryn, Tom and Alex.

Route: from the Hawkshead carpark, through town to the footpath just beyond the Red Lion and across the main road to the path opposite. Heading east and then a little north to cross a marshy field to a footbridge and then left after a gate, signposted 'Loanthwaite', to join a track for a few yards and then right, across a field, rising. Turning right again onto a quiet road to reach a crossroads (Tim turning back to check on Kathryn and Alex; Lois, Steve and Tom continuing to tackle the ‘mountain’) and then left on a more major road taking a path to the right. Then steeply up a stepped path for the final ascent. Back the same way, running through a sudden heavy downpour.

Conditions: initially merely damp and autumnal; after the summit, a torrential downpour.

Pub: the King’s Head, Hawkshead, for Cumbrian Legendary Ales, Loweswater Gold.
